The old man fishes
but he catches no fish.
He has many tales to tell,
his experiences on the high seas,
glorious expeditions with brave men,
and his valiance in the face
of danger.
He is proud of his rod,
which he sculpted
with the tooth of a great white
out of scrap metal
from a defeated ship
he single handily sunk.
The old man is an expert,
in all aquatic aspects,
because he says, he's been there,
yet still he catches no fish.
Attached to his impressive rod
is an old boot,
he is using the wrong bait.
Children
and other passersby
try to inform him of his miscalculations
but land lovers, like fish,
are dumb.
If he changed bait now,
it would be an obvious sign of weakness.
So he reeled in the explorer,
and defiantly re-cast the old boot,
in a show of manly defiance.
